We’ve got a soft spot for Venice; we first visited for a couple’s getaway that kicked off a two-week travel adventure in Italy. Since then, we’ve returned to Venice in winter to work remotely from among the canals on a workation.
But Venice is the kind of city that many people only visit once, as a bucket-list romantic escape. We can attest that it’s every bit as magical as the hype! If you want to go full-throttle on making it an authentic retreat, you can sleep overlooking one of the city’s famous canals.
Hotels in Venice with canal views don’t usually come cheap, so we begin this guide with a caveat that you may need to be willing to part with much hard-earned money to stay in one. However, while we do feature some of the most lavish canal-view hotels, we’ve also included a handful that won’t stretch your budget too far.
So, let’s get into it.

While many of the hotels in Venice with canal views have eye-watering room rates, Residenza d’Epoca San Cassiano is a rare find where you can stay right on the waterside for a more manageable price, especially in low season.
This is particularly impressive considering it is a well kept 14th-century villa perched right on the Grand Canal as it passes through the Santa Croce district.
