Affordable hotels in Venice
Before we get into the details of our recommendations, here are a few quick tips on savings costs with accommodation in Venice:
- This is Venice we’re talking about – it is not a cheap city! So “affordable” is proportional. We’ve picked hotels that are affordable relative to general accommodation prices in the city, and to their location.
- You will usually get the best prices on hotels in Venice if you book well in advance. This can make a significant difference.
- Visiting outside of peak season will always get you the best prices. Every hotel listed here has rooms for less than $80–$90 if you are visiting Venice in winter, but they can get pricy in summer (while still being low-cost compared to alternatives).
- See Budget Your Trip for useful information on general travel costs in Venice.
Without further ado, let’s get into our favourite affordable hotels in Venice!
1. Hotel Tiziano
Hotel Tiziano overlooks the Terese Canal in the Dorsoduro neighbourhood of Venice, on the south-west of the main island. This is an area where we love to hang out in the evenings for food and drink, as there is a lively atmosphere but not so many tourists around. Many of the city’s best nighttime drinking spots are found in this area, as featured in our guide to Venice at night.
In the daytime, Dorsoduro has a laidback feel, with a lot of art and culture to explore. The canal-lined side streets are dotted with museums and galleries, and illustrated with hidden street art. Meanwhile, it’s still within a 20–30 minute canal walk from St Mark’s Square.
The hotel is bright and very clean, while blending into the Venetian surroundings beautifully. The rooms have a traditional feel, with wooden-beamed ceilings, while also being well equipped with modern facilities. Some rooms have views over the water, hence it is featured in our guide to the best hotels in Venice with canal views.

Set in a traditional 15th-century building, Palazzo Cendon Piano Antico will give you an elegant Venetian experience with its period-styled rooms, some featuring romantic four-poster beds. The hotel has a real historic charm brought out by its classic furnishings.
Located in the Cannaregio district, Palazzo Cendon is nestled in one of Venice’s quieter areas. Cannaregio is known for its authentic and local feel, with a slower pace than other parts of the city, and is also home to the historic Jewish quarter and ghetto. The Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge are within reasonable walking distance.
We loved hanging out at coffee shops on the canalside here, like Torrefazione Cannaregio, where you can find some of the very best coffee in Venice! This is ten minutes’ walk from the hotel, while the excellent PePe’s Crepe House is a couple of doors away.

If you want to experience Venice on a budget without sacrificing comfort, the family-run Hotel dalla Mora is a great option. it is located in the Santa Croce district, one of the least touristy areas of the city, with a relaxed and local atmosphere.
There isn’t a huge amount to see in the neighbourhood in terms of classic attractions, but it’s a fine base to explore from. The setting does have a cuteness to it, with canals winding through the quiet streets, and charming eateries and shops nearby.
The hotel itself has a simple but inviting feel, with clean and cosy rooms that provide a comfortable place to rest after a day’s exploring. The breakfast is a great inclusion for the price, featuring fresh Venetian pastries, boiled eggs and homemade jams. Overall, the hotel is brilliant value for money.
